September Pack Meeting

September Pack Meeting

Welcome back Scouts! We will be having our first pack meeting of the school year on Monday September 8th at 6:30 PM in the library.

The Arrow of Light scouts will be our first service den for this meeting.

We’ll start the meeting with a uniform inspection for the new scouting year and discussing the Bobcat rank requirements.

We will be distributing the Raingutter Regatta boat kits and starting to work on them in dens. Scouts will need to finish painting and decorating their boats at home after the meeting. If you are unable to make the meeting please reach out to get your regatta boat kit.

Finally, we will work on the first advancement of the year: the Bobcat Adventure.

Scouts at HSS can wear Class A uniforms to school on pack meeting days!

Raingutter Regatta

Raingutter Regatta

It’s time to get out the paint and glue and put on your creative caps for our annual Raingutter Regatta! We’ll be starting to build our boats at the September Pack Meeting. If you are unable to make the meeting please reach out to get your regatta boat kit.

Siblings are welcome! We kindly request a $7 donation to cover the cost of the kit and awards for non Scouts.

Boat Building: Before the races begin, put on your creative cap and assemble your very own mini sailboat. This hands-on experience encourages problem-solving and craftsmanship. Please come up with a name and Register Your Boat before the event.

Race Day Excitement: Watch as your handcrafted sailboat takes to the water in friendly competition! Blow on the sails and navigate your vessel along the rain gutter racetrack. It’s a test of precision and strategy.

Refreshments: Enjoy a Pizza lunch as you mingle with other Scouts and families. It’s a great time to share stories and build connections.

What to Bring: Please bring your boat, a sense of adventure, and a willingness to have a blast!

Friendly Competition: Compete against fellow Cub Scouts, families, and friends. Cheering, encouragement, and sportsmanship are all part of the fun.

Awards & Prizes: Celebrate the winners and recognize the effort and creativity that went into boat design. Prizes will be awarded to the top sailors and there will also be awards for best design.

Rules: Please review the Raingutter Regatta Rules.

Don’t miss this opportunity for your Cub Scout to learn about teamwork, craftsmanship, and the joy of friendly competition. The Cub Scout Raingutter Regatta is a family-friendly event that combines fun and learning in a unique and exciting way.

Whether you’re a seasoned sailor or a first-time boat builder, this event promises memorable moments and a sense of accomplishment.

Can’t wait to see you all out there!

Hope everyone is having a great summer! The SJ Giants Scout Night and Overnight is coming up on Saturday, July 19th @ 5PM. We had a great time as a Pack sitting together last year!

Enjoy a pregame parade and post-game opportunity for your scout to run the bases. Then camp out after the game in the very same outfield the Giants just played on. The night finishes with a movie on the 36’ HD video board (last year it was Angels in the Outfield). The fun doesn’t end there though as scouts receive a light breakfast in the morning and a special San Jose Giants Scout Night Commemorative Patch.

There are a few options to choose from:

  • You can attend the game only for $15 per ticket (Only Sections E/F/G are available at this time). This does not include food. (I’m unable to add the bbq package to a game only ticket. Sorry!).
  • You can attend the game and stay overnight for $30 per person (youth/adults are the same price). This does not include food.
  • You can attend the game and stay overnight AND get a ticket for BBQ and a drink. $45 per child. $60 per adult.

Please Sign Up and Venmo Neschae by EOD Thursday, July 10th. We’ll be contacting the box office on Friday to reserve our seats for the first round. If seats are still available, I’ll plan to reach out to them next Tuesday as well.

Halibut Fishing in the Bay

Halibut Fishing in the Bay

We’re excited to invite you to a halibut fishing adventure in the Bay on July 3rd! We’re planning a half-day morning trip (exact time TBD) aboard the Oakland Anglers II, and it’s going to be a fun, family-friendly outing on the water. No Fishing Experience Needed! Never fished before? No problem at all! Fishing poles are included!

What to Expect

The boat stays within the Bay, where waters are typically calm. You’ll enjoy amazing views of Alcatraz, the Bay and Golden Gate Bridges, and the surrounding cities — all while having a blast with fellow Pack families. Just show up, stand there, talk, laugh, and enjoy the day. The amazing deckhands will:

  • Set up your pole
  • Bait your hook
  • Coach you on reeling in your catch
  • Handle the fish (including the “splashy” parts if the kids prefer not to!)
  • And get you back in action for your next one

Additional costs to plan for:

  • ~$10 for live bait and tackle
  • $20 (optional) for fish filleting/cleaning
  • Gratuity for the crew
  • Food available for purchase onboard

We hope you can join us for this special outing! Let us know if you have any questions!
